This is one of those topics that makes me angrier than almost anything in the midwifery world. PATHETIC. My friend Derek made a good point regarding this, that if our patriarchal culture didn't sexualize/objectify women, and breasts in particular, this wouldn't be an issue at all--that men have somehow claimed breasts for solely possessive, sexual purposes rather than their biological component. (he worded this so much more elegantly)
I agree it's weird to see. Probably because all the dolls I got had bottles to "feed" them with. But I've heard plenty of breastfeeding moms say that their toddlers (even little boys) will "breastfeed" their dolls and stuffed animals if they've seen their mom do it, so it's kind of a silly toy anyway.
I will be watching, and just like Santa Claus, if you are naughty, I will hunt you down and feed you to my reindeer (I keep them in my shed). I reserve the right to delete any and all comment that make my feelgoods feel bad.

ReplyDeleteI don't find it sexual or anything - I think that's silly. I do think it's weird to have a breast feeding doll, though. Not sexual, just weird... lol.
